How do you assist Next Street Tax’s clients in your role as Tax Administrator?

I’m the first point of contact for our tax clients as they begin the filing process. My job is to ensure clients understand the services they’ll receive, the process from start to finish, and to provide status updates along the way. My goal is to make sure clients always know where they are in the filing process.

I’m motivated by the person I was yesterday. My goal is to always be a better version of myself than I was the day before.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy going to concerts, catching up with friends and family, and traveling whenever I can.

What are three fun facts about you?

1. I love reading motivational and finance books.

2. I like to test my luck on PrizePicks—I’ve only won twice!

3. My very first concert was Sevyn Streeter, and it’s what started my love for live music.

We’re so happy to have Hillary on the team. Her commitment to client communication and personal growth makes her an incredible addition to Next Street Tax. She will be working directly with our Warren Street clients who use our tax services, so you may be hearing from her soon!y and can’t wait to see the positive impact she’ll continue to make for our clients and our firm.

Veronica Cabral’s Path to Becoming a CFP® and Lead Advisor

Veronica Cabral, CFP® has been with our company since its early days in 2016, growing alongside the firm and making an impact at every stage of her career. From starting as a Client Service Associate to serving as Director of Operations and Chief Compliance Officer, Veronica’s dedication has been unwavering. Now, she’s taking another exciting step forward—having recently passed her CFP® exam and assuming the role of Lead Advisor.

We are thrilled to celebrate this major milestone in her career and the expertise she brings to our clients. If you missed her original “Meet the Team” post, you can check it out here

In this interview, we dive deeper into Veronica’s new role and her vision as a Lead Advisor. Enjoy!

You’ve been with the company since 2016, starting as a Client Service Associate. How has your journey shaped your approach to financial advising?

Getting to join Warren Street so early in my career and going through so many different roles, I’ve been able to get a deeper understanding of each part of our process which has given me a really strong foundation now that I get to work with clients directly on their financial plans.

What inspired you to pursue the CFP® certification, and how do you think it will impact your work with clients?

I’ve always felt that working with clients directly and getting to build strong relationships was what I was most passionate about. When the opportunity came up for me to become an advisor, pursuing the CFP® was something I knew would be the right next move. Not only preparing for the exam, but going through the Personal Financial Planning Certificate Program at UCLA Extension gave me a really good understanding of each facet of the financial planning process. Ultimately, knowing that it would make me a better financial planner for our clients is what motivated me and I think the knowledge I got through the program and exam will help me be the best advisor I can be for our clients.

What excites you most about stepping into the Lead Advisor role, and how do you envision this next chapter of your career?

What excites me the most about my new role is getting to know our clients on a deeper level and helping them meet their financial goals. It’s really rewarding seeing our clients meet their goals and helping them check off really important things off their list.

You also run the Instagram page @veemakescents, where you share financial tips and insights. What are your goals with this platform?

I started @veemakescents almost 8 years ago with the goal of helping young women understand money more. I grew the platform to over 50,000 followers across different channels and then life got really busy. Between navigating a global pandemic, getting married, buying our first home, welcoming our son into the world, and then going back to school to pursue the CFP® , I took a step back from the platform. I hope to get back to posting soon, especially now that I have more in depth knowledge on financial planning. My goal still remains the same – to empower young women to take control over their finances.

As a bilingual advisor, how has being fluent in Spanish helped you build relationships with clients?

Speaking two languages is a gift especially when it comes to my career. Ever since I worked at a bank as a teller in college, speaking Spanish opened opportunities for me and allowed me to help more clients. Speaking Spanish allows me to help a diverse set of clients and the most important thing is allowing me to build trust with them. Language barriers can make things difficult especially when it comes to finances and I love that I get to help these clients navigate something so important.

What advice would you give to others preparing for the CFP® exam to earn their certification?

Once again, congratulations to Veronica on this incredible achievement. We’re proud to have her leading the way and can’t wait to see the positive impact she’ll continue to make for our clients and our firm.

Meet the Team: Welcome Back, Phillip Law, CFA!

At Warren Street, we’re always growing—sometimes that means welcoming new faces, and other times it means welcoming back familiar ones. If you’ve been with us for a while, you might recognize Phillip Law, CFA, and we’re excited to share that he’s officially rejoined the team!

Phillip is stepping into a new role as Senior Portfolio Manager. In this spotlight, we’ll help you get to know him a bit better—both personally and professionally.

What drew you back to Warren Street?

Warren Street has always felt like home. It was my first internship and job, and I developed an affinity for the firm’s mission and people. Even after I left to expand my horizons, I often daydreamed about returning with a newfound skillset. I’m grateful for the opportunity to come back, and I’m ready to apply what I’ve learned in my new role.

How has your career evolved since your last time with us?

During my last role at Capital Group, I really got my hands dirty analyzing the performance of institutional client portfolios using data and storytelling. Most importantly, this experience significantly boosted my confidence and helped me buy into the following mindset: as long as I put my heart into what I do and try to help others, I can add value even at one of the world’s largest investment firms. Now, I’m returning with stronger analytical skills and the self-confidence to make change.

What excites you most about your new role as Senior Portfolio Manager?

What are your top priorities for the next 6–12 months?

A lot has changed since I was last at the firm for both myself and Warren Street. Once I’m acclimated, my immediate priorities will be in three areas: 1) upscaling portfolio management processes and decisions 2) expanding the number of solutions Warren Street has in the marketplace and 3) producing more capital markets related content.

What’s one piece of financial advice you wish more people followed?

There’s one quote I heard from a Portfolio Manager at Capital Group that I think about often: “Lean Into the Pain, Let Go of the Joy.” Human psychology is wired to avoid leaning into markets during turbulent times. Meanwhile, human behavior makes it challenging for investors to trim positions when their investments feel euphoric. In my opinion, this quote not only humanizes the idea of “buy low, sell high,” but also serves as concrete advice for building a durable, long-term portfolio.

Favorite way to unwind after a long day?

I feel most refreshed when I’m physically active, whether it be swinging my badminton racket or shooting jump shots on the court. Weekly cooking sessions with family and grandparents also have a special place in my heart..

What’s one fun or unexpected fact people might not know about you?

I have a deep fascination with animals and enjoy listening to simple animal facts or seeing these creatures in their natural habitats. Maybe this stems from my childhood wonder of dinosaurs, but I’m considering visiting all major zoos in the US as a bucket list item.

We’re thrilled to have Phil back on the team, especially in a role where his expertise and perspective will directly benefit our clients. Be sure to say hello if you see him around—or reach out if you want to talk shop about the markets!

Meet the Team: Kristiano Costeniero

Our team just keeps growing! We’re excited to introduce you to another key addition to the Warren Street Wealth Advisors family. If you missed our last introduction, you can catch up here.

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Kristiano Costeniero, our new Strategic Advisor. In this interview, you’ll get to know Kristiano and learn how his experience and commitment to personalized financial strategies will help guide you in achieving your financial goals. We’re confident that Kristiano’s dedication will be instrumental in providing exceptional service to our clients!

What inspired you to pursue a career in wealth management?

I fell into the career right out of college. I was finishing up a degree in International Business at Pepperdine, and a roommate of mine mentioned that his father had started an  Ayco (now Goldman Sachs Ayco) branch in California. This roommate thought I should seriously consider financial planning and that I would be a great fit for it. I applied, only to find out he hadn’t even told his dad I was applying! I ended up interviewing and getting the job, and almost 22 years later, the rest is history!

What do you enjoy most about working with clients?

How do you help clients navigate complex financial situations or life transitions?

Through any life transition, it’s important to have a counselor who will not only give good advice but also knows you and your family to guide you through the best decisions for you. No two situations are identical, but having an advisor who has worked through almost any issue you could imagine brings experience that no one person could have on their own. Besides technical knowledge, just being available and consistent is really the key to helping clients navigate their biggest and most nuanced questions.

What’s one piece of financial advice you believe everyone should follow?

My priority as an advisor is to make sure you are planning for YOU first. Children, relatives, friends, or anyone else you might consider as your financial beneficiaries almost always have the time and resources to make financial decisions on their own, even if you want to make them a priority in your life. I am here to make sure you take care of yourself first, so that you can then plan for your beneficiaries in a way that does not impact your ultimate financial goals.

How does Warren Street align with your personal values?

When interviewing firms to transition my professional career, my first question to everyone was, “Is your firm a good fit for my clients?” Warren Street clearly leads with a “what’s best for the client first” mentality, which is important when working with people who count on your advice to be unbiased and in their best interest.

What excites you most about joining Warren Street?

The flexibility of the financial platform allows clients to implement strategies in their best interest rather than being limited by a captive firm. There are so many strategies that can be implemented in a myriad of ways that just aren’t available because some firms won’t allow them. I now have the ability to implement solely based on what is best for clients, without platform limitations.

Who or what motivates you?

Having life experiences is my number one motivator. I absolutely love making memories with my family and kids, and I also love being able to help clients do the same.

What’s something clients might be surprised to learn about you? Provide 3 fun facts.

  1. I have played music all my life, both trumpet and now mostly drums.
  2. I love all kinds of traveling, from overlanding/camping with my family to cross-country motorcycling with friends, and everything in between.
  3. The only sport I have continuously played, without a break since age 10, is ice hockey—despite growing up in the desert of Southern California!

We hope this interview gives you a deeper insight into how Kristiano will be guiding you on your financial journey. We’re thrilled to have him on board and can’t wait for you to benefit from his experience and commitment to your success!

Leading the Way: JB’s Journey to Director of Operations

Since joining the Warren Street team in April 2023, Jennifer “JB” Battles has quickly proven herself as an invaluable asset to the team, leading with dedication, innovation, and a strong focus on operational excellence. Her journey to becoming our new Director of Operations has been nothing short of impressive, and we’re excited to see her continue making an impact in this role. For those who missed JB’s “Meet the Team” blog last year, be sure to check it out to learn more about her background and the strengths she brings to the team.

In this interview, we take a deep dive into JB’s vision for the future, her goals as Director of Operations, and how she plans to enhance the client experience. Get ready to be inspired by her leadership journey and her commitment to driving positive change for our clients and our team!

What are you most excited about in this new role?

How has your experience so far prepared you for this new role? What key lessons have you learned along the way?

I bring experience from a wide range of businesses, all with one thing in common: people. They are at the heart of everything we do. The experience of satisfying clients and creating a work atmosphere conducive to growth has best prepared me for this new role. These simple truths have shaped me and continue to influence how I lead: treat others the way you’d like to be treated, leave people better than you found them, and always leave them with a smile.

As Director of Operations, what are your top priorities for the year?

Continue to cultivate a team atmosphere. Build a cross-functional team by providing members with opportunities to expand their reach. Optimize operational processes.

How do you see your role impacting the client experience, and what changes do you plan to implement to enhance it?

As Director of Operations, I have the opportunity to enhance our client experience by implementing changes that lead to seamless onboarding, efficient client service, and strengthened client retention. Our organization is growing, our team is growing, but our core values remain the same.

What does “clients’ best interest first” mean to you, and how do you ensure that mindset is reflected in operations?

Putting a client’s best interest first means stepping into their shoes, giving them the floor, and allowing them to be heard. Our clients deserve our very best, so we can meet their needs exactly where they are each time we serve them.

What advice would you give to others looking to grow in their careers and take on leadership roles?

Learn, listen, and lean in. When you have the opportunity to learn from others—take it. If someone with more experience is speaking—listen. When a project seems difficult or out of reach—lean in.

Please join us in congratulating JB on this well-deserved promotion, and we wish her the very best as she leads us into an even brighter future!

Meet the Team: Ernest Jones, CPA

We are excited to introduce Ernest Jones, a seasoned CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) with over a decade of experience in the accounting field. Ernest brings a wealth of knowledge and a personalized approach to serving small business owners, helping them navigate the intricacies of tax and business consulting.

Please enjoy this interview to give you a deeper understanding of who Ernest is and how he serves you!

Can you share a bit about your professional background and what led you to specialize in tax?

I graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s and later a Master’s in Accounting. My career began at a local CPA firm in Las Vegas, where I gained experience in various areas of accounting, from payroll tax filings to conducting financial statement audits. Over time, I found myself gravitating more towards income tax and business consulting, which sparked my interest in working directly with small business owners. This eventually led me to establish my own practice, where I help clients navigate the complexities of taxes and the administrative side of running their businesses.

What excites you about joining our team and working with our clients?

I’ve worked closely with the Warren Street team now for the better part of 7 years, so I feel like I already am part of the team, and we’ve already worked together on some mutual clients already. I’m looking forward to more fully integrating into the team and working to continue to get better results for clients.

What is your philosophy when it comes to creating tax strategies for clients?

Keeping it simple. No one likes paying tax, but I’ve found that doing the basics of tax planning are more fruitful—as opposed to falling down the rabbit hole of the latest social media post that promises tax savings through questionable strategies.

What are some of your key accomplishments in your career that you’re most proud of?

I have a handful of feather-in-the-cap stories where I was able to save taxpayers a few hundred thousand dollars in taxes. I even have a story where I got a taxpayer back a million dollars in overpaid taxes. I think every tax professional will have a few of those stories, and it is hokey to say this, but the most meaningful have been the client interactions where I’ve caught a taxpayer when they haven’t filed for a few years. The client didn’t think they would ever be able to get it resolved or addressed. Those clients are always the most appreciative, and the key thing I’ve learned from that is that any monumental task is best approached by breaking it down into steps and taking it one step at a time.

Who or what motivates you?

My wife, Sandra.

What are three fun facts about you?

  1. I make craft cocktails. It was something I took up during the pandemic because I really missed getting a high quality drink. I’ve gotten to the point where I make my own clear ice.
  2. I’ve been a UNLV men’s basketball season ticket holder for the past 15 years.
  3. I’m born and raised in Las Vegas and still reside here.

We are thrilled to welcome Ernest to the team! His extensive background in accounting, passion for helping small business owners, and commitment to providing personalized service make him an invaluable addition to our firm. With Ernest on board, we look forward to continuing to offer our clients the outstanding support and care they deserve. Welcome, Ernest—we’re excited to have you with us!

Meet the Team: Len Hanson

Welcome to another edition of our “Meet the Team” blog! Many of you may already know and trust Len Hanson, one of our standout team members. If you happened to miss our previous introduction, you can catch up by clicking here.

Len has been an integral part of our team since Warren Street’s inception, bringing over a decade of experience in helping clients navigate and prepare for retirement. His dedication and expertise have made a significant impact on the lives of hundreds of Chevron clients, ensuring they achieve their retirement goals with confidence and peace of mind. Today, let’s dive into what makes Len an invaluable part of our team and how he contributes to our mission of delivering exceptional service.

How did you get started in this business?

In your role as Regional Director – South Bay, how do you assist Warren Street’s clients?

As the Regional Director – South Bay, I assist Warren Street’s clients by guiding Chevron employees through the retirement process. I help them prepare for retirement by ensuring they have the proper accounts set up and providing personalized advice to secure their financial future.

How does Warren Street align with your personal values?

Warren Street aligns with my personal values by prioritizing the client’s best interests above all else. Teaming up with Warren Street was the best way to ensure this principle is upheld, allowing me to focus on guiding clients effectively rather than managing accounts.

What do you love most about working at Warren Street?

What I love most about working at Warren Street is the ability to help a greater number of people. If I were working on my own, I could only assist a limited number of clients. However, being part of a team allows me to reach and support many more individuals in achieving their financial goals.

Who or what motivates you?

I’m motivated by the opportunity to do what I love every day. My work doesn’t even feel like work. It’s rewarding to know that I’m doing exactly what I would choose to do on my own, but with the added benefit of making a positive impact on others’ lives.

What are three fun facts about you?

1. I love pickleball. Check out some of our past pickleball events hosted by Warren Street!

2. I have a passion for numbers, puzzles, and the business of finance. While many people dislike handling money, I genuinely enjoy it.

3. I love traveling with my wife, Danya. We always have two vacations planned in advance to look forward to.

If you know someone or if you are someone who can benefit from Len’s extensive experience in retirement planning, please don’t hesitate to schedule time with him. Len is eager to help you or your loved ones achieve financial security and peace of mind.

Meet the Team: Jennifer La

Since our last “Meet the Team” series, we’ve welcomed two new members, Bryan Cassick and Jennifer “JB” Battles, to our Warren Street family. However, today we want to shine a spotlight on an existing team member who has recently been promoted. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Jennifer, who is now our Director of Sales & Marketing. Get to know more about Jennifer’s role, hobbies, and future goals.

In your role as Director of Sales & Marketing, how do you assist Warren Street’s clients?

I focus on client communication and strive to enhance the user experience, from your initial contact with us through your entire journey as a client. My responsibilities include managing email campaign communications, such as the quarterly newsletter you receive. Additionally, I plan and host events, including our annual client appreciation event, which is our way of thanking you for your support and loyalty.

How does Warren Street align with your personal values?

At Warren Street, we place a strong emphasis on passion. I strive to live my daily life engaged in activities that truly matter to me. I do not want to live a life that feels idle or mundane. My work is driven by genuine enthusiasm and purpose—I am here because I want to be, not because I have to be. This passion fuels my commitment to making a meaningful impact both in my role and in the lives of our clients.

What do you love most about working at Warren Street?

One of the things I appreciate most about Warren Street is the incredible flexibility, as our entire team operates remotely. Despite being spread out across the country, I feel very close to my team members, to the point where I consider them my family. We stay connected through regular activities, such as our monthly lunch club. Additionally, when we meet our annual sales goals, we celebrate with a special trip called “Path To,” where we enjoy our success together.

What is your biggest accomplishment thus far?

My biggest accomplishment is stepping into the role of Director of Sales & Marketing. It comes with many responsibilities, but I am ready to grow in this position and serve you proudly.

Who or what motivates you?

My parents are my biggest motivation. They immigrated from Vietnam without knowing any English and with zero dollars in their pockets. Despite facing immense struggles and making countless sacrifices, they worked tirelessly to create a better future and provide a better life for my sister and me. Their dedication drives me to give back even a fraction of what they’ve given me.

What are your aspirations?

I absolutely love traveling, and my dream is to visit at least 100 countries in my lifetime. I’ve already explored various countries in Southeast Asia and recently visited Iceland in March 2024. Among all the places I’ve been to thus far, Japan has been my favorite. I highly recommend everyone to experience its unique culture and beauty firsthand someday!

What are three fun facts about you?

  1. I own over 100 plushies of Winnie the Pooh, my favorite character of all time.
  2. I have visited 31 of the 50 states.
  3. I have an Etsy shop with my cousin, where we sell hand-made amigurumi plushies. Follow us on Instagram @QTWorks!

Get to know our other team members, including Aileen Obedoza and Emily Balmages. Let’s congratulate Jennifer on her new role as Director of Sales & Marketing.

Meet the Team: Bryan Cassick

You may have noticed there’s a fresh face around Warren Street — our newest Lead Advisor, Bryan Cassick! Bryan is based in Albany, New York but serves clients around the country.

We’re thrilled to introduce Bryan and hope this interview gives you a chance to get to know him. Please join us in extending a warm welcome!

Q: In your role as Lead Advisor, how do you assist Warren Street’s clients?

A: I assist people with their financial plan for life. I’m focused on helping clients with the decisions they have to make and how I can support them. Then, I partner with them in tackling those big financial decisions together.

Q: What impact do you hope to make at Warren Street?

A: I hope to have a lasting partnership with all my clients. I want to be more than just a financial advisor; I want to be a partner who helps individuals not only with their finances but also with the feel-good aspects. Whether it’s planning for retirement or buying a new car, I want to assist them in all aspects of their personal and family planning. I strive to be the partner who helps them navigate these decisions and create a solid plan.

Q: How does Warren Street align with your personal values?

A: That’s one of the reasons why I’m here — I need to be a part of something I believe in. My personal values revolve around treating others as I would want to be treated myself. Warren Street stands on the principle of being a fiduciary, which means always prioritizing the best interests of clients. It’s something I easily believe in and align with.

Q: Who or what motivates you?

A: This one is a little emotional to think about, but my family motivates me. Whether it’s my wife waking up for 5 a.m. gym classes or my brother running a 50-mile race for his “enjoyment,” I am fortunate to be surrounded by highly driven individuals, and their drive rubs off on me. While I may not participate in a 50-mile race or early morning gym classes, I aim to contribute to this successful atmosphere by supporting my family, whether it’s doing the lawn or other household chores. If I can help motivate my clients like my family motivates me, we’re looking at a bright future.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

A: I love having fun and relaxing with friends and family. Most Thursday nights, you’ll find me jamming in the basement with my friends (I play the ukulele and bass and sing). In fact, we were having a jam sesh the morning of my wedding — up until I realized it was time to get ready, 10 minutes before the photographer came! When I’m not jamming with the guys, I’m likely vacationing with my wife and daughter. I love having fun outside of work, but in the time I’ve spent so far with the Warren Street team, I have a feeling I’ll be having a lot of fun at work, too!

Q: What are three fun facts about you?

A: First, I was born and raised in Upstate New York, specifically the Capital District. Albany and the surrounding area have been my home my whole life, so I guess you can call me a townie! I’ve stayed right where my family is and even went to school here at UAlbany, the University of Albany.

Second, I love the National Parks of America. A year ago, my wife and I hiked to the top of Yosemite Falls in California, which happens to be the highest waterfall in North America.

Third, my favorite movie is Forrest Gump. It’s Americana at its finest, tells some history of the country, and is a fun, feel-good movie.

Q: Anything else to add?

A: I care deeply about my clients. Whether it’s managing their investments or assisting with various aspects of their financial plan, such as double-checking their insurance or estate planning, I want to ensure they feel secure and worry-free about their finances. I want them to know that “Bryan’s got their back” and that they can trust me to put together a solid plan for them.

We’re always growing the team here at Warren Street, and our Meet the Team series gives us a chance to introduce our people publicly. If you missed the last Meet the Team post, click here to get to know JB, our rockstar Client Service Associate!

Welcome Jennifer Battles, “JB”!

Warren Street is growing! Meet our newest Client Service Associate, Jennifer Battles, who goes by “JB.” Located in Georgia, JB is thrilled to get to know our clients and help support their financial needs.

Please enjoy this interview to give you a deeper understanding of who JB is and how she helps support you!

In your role as Client Service Associate, how do you assist Warren Street’s clients?

I take care of all their service needs, from the time they’re opening a new account, to cashiering, to trade requests. I handle any questions they have about their accounts or if they need to change anything.

What impact do you hope to make at Warren Street?

This is hard — how do I put this in words? I always ask my kids what they want to bring to people, and I think what I would say is that I hope to bring peace and joy and hopefulness. I always want to be a help, whatever that looks like.

How does Warren Street align with your personal values?

I’ve always been passionate about people, which I know is also a core value of Warren Street’s. I’m a helper (Enneagram 2!) and already get the sense the Warren Street team is the same way.

Who or what motivates you?

My 99-year-old grandmother. She had 11 kids, and she’s never faltered in anything she’s believed in. She’s originally from England and came over with my mom on the Queen Mary, just the neatest person. You could ask her anything, and she’ll tell you like she remembers it from yesterday. She’s very witty and even taught creative movement to preschoolers until age 93.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love to be outside with my daughters: Emily, who is married and 25, and Caroline, 19. We paddleboard, hike, you name it. Sometimes we bring along our golden doodle, Dudley, on walks, but a walk with him is really more of a run! I also love food — I don’t know how people can’t love good food.

What are three fun facts about you?

1) I call bingo at the assisted living place around the corner from my home. It’s a lot of fun!

2) I had a food truck — called Char-CUTE-erie — during Covid. The truck’s name was Rosemary; we basically converted a two-horse trailer into a food truck.

3) I’m passionate about helping people feel noticed and important. For example, I’m close with my local Starbucks community and joke that I’ve adopted some of the employees. We’ll have Thanksgiving with them or celebrate with them when they move on to other jobs. My hope is that they feel noticed when they are with us!

We’re thrilled to have JB on the team and hope you’ll join us in extending her a warm welcome.
